School so Far

School is very very hard. We spend every second of class doing school work, and we never talk about our upcoming trip to Paris and Barcelona. There is a ping pong table and a fose ball table, in the commons, that, sadly, are never used. However, if such tables were being used, we would all be getting pretty good.

Our first day of school was on Monday the 14th. Grant and I traveled from Aarslev, where we are staying with our host family, to Svendborg, where the school is. We traveled by train, with Christian. (Christian is the student we are staying with) In the morning we had a short Econ class, which, as mentioned before, did not consist of a long conversation about Paris and Barcelona. After that, we traveled around Svendborg, so that we could sharpen our knowledge of the town. We found the hostel that we will be staying at once we return from our trip and we figured out how to get from there to the school. It is a 15 minute walk. Grant, Christian and I returned to Aarslev by train. Once we returned, we watched Adams Apple, an odd, but good, Danish film. For supper we had rice with curry, some meatballs and salad.

On the second day of school we had our Econ class in the morning and then met with Allen, a Danish instructor. Allen taught us some "easy" danish words like: bil (car), pige (girl), bog (book), blomst (flower),  blyant (pencil) and much more. We also learned how to say some simple sentences in Danish. Det er en pige (that is a girl). We finished the school day with a very educational game of table tennis. After Grant and I returned to our host home, we played some games with Christian. For supper we had meatballs, potatoes, gravy and red cabbage.

On Wednesday we had a longer schedule. We had Econ in the morning with John, Danish culture with Allan, a gathering with the HTX students, some more Econ, and finally a project with the Danish students who plan on coming to Minnesota in the fall. During the morning session with Allan he taught us to say something in Danish that we could say in front of all of the HTX students. We also had to introduce ourselves and say a little about why we are in Denmark and what our plans are for the trip. I said "Rødgrød med Fløde smager godt" (Red berry pudding with cream tastes good). After school Katy, Grant, Troy and I walked around with the Danish students Christian, Katrine and Lisbeth. Once we returned to Aarslev we traveled to Odense with Christian, Lene (Christian's mother) and Sidse (Christian's girlfriend) for a mexican dinner. We are now sitting in Christian living room and about to go to bed!

  2. I'm with Courtney! I check for a new entry every day - no pressure! I am glad to hear how hard you have been working. I thought you might be slacking off a little, but I'm glad to hear you're not. I love that you are learning Danish words and that you like red berry pudding. :) Enjoy Paris and Barcelona! I can't wait to see the pictures from that trip.
